Embracing Our Why: What Ohana Means to Us

Ohana Means Family

Ohana Healthcare Partners was founded to transform human and health services to achieve health equity for all. But why did we choose the name Ohana? Because Ohana means family. And family means that nobody gets left behind or forgotten.

Our team lives and breathes Ohana every day, with each client. We embrace the concept of Ohana, which connects people from anywhere together with loyalty, support, and compassion.

Merging Lived Experiences with Professional Expertise

Partner and CEO Dr. Eleanor Castillo Sumi brings more than a Ph.D. and over 20 years of specialized expertise to her role. She brings lived, human experience. She is a first-generation Filipina born and raised in rural Hawaii, where mental health stigma is prevalent and access to services can be challenging. She and the team at Ohana also have personal experience of the impact of mental health and substance use disorders on families. This lived experience allows them to approach their work at Ohana Healthcare Partners with empathetic understanding and compassion — and it also shapes the ethos of the entire organization.
